Sometimes we as girls have a skewed view of ourselves. We let things people say or situations in our lives define who we are. When you look in the mirror, what do you see? Which mirror are you looking in?
There is the shattered mirror. This is the one we look in when we feel due to our life circumstances or decisions we have made, we become completely broken. We believe there isn’t a way to pick the pieces back up. Maybe you always thought your parents would remain married or that the friend would never turn there back on you. Maybe you made some decisions with a boy and you feel that you have lost yourself and you are no longer full because of the choice you made. These are great examples of the shattered mirror.
Maybe you are believing the fogged up mirror. You don’t see yourself for who you really are. You are constantly comparing yourself to the media and those around you. You have lost yourself in the midst of trying to be popular and feel excepted.
My hope is that you see a complete mirror. One that when you look into it, you see Christ in you. You see the beautiful creation that he has created. Sure we all face hardships. We deal with the feelings of our parents being divorced, playing the comparison game of those friends and peers around us, and dealing with boys, but Christ has called us to find our identity in him. When we do that, the “stuff” we deal with no longer defines what we see in the mirror.
I want to encourage you today to find your identity solely in the Lord. Ask him today to show you the things that are maybe skewing up the mirror you are looking at.
“Let the king be enthralled by your beauty;
honor him, for he is your lord.” Psalm 45:11
