Dad’s girlfriend.Every other weekend. Summers away from your friends. Babysitting again so your mom can go out. How do you react to decisions made by your parents or by the court system where you have no say?
There are many ways you can react but most girls go either one of two ways. They show blatant rebellion against their parents or they retreat inside themselves defeated. You obviously can’t trump your parents. Let’s say for instance if your Dad’s girlfriend has been unkind to you and you go to your father with an emotional reaction. He will most likely see this as an immature plot to get what you want. This only deepens the hurt for you and you feel helpless.
Consider this example from the Bible. ( John 11) Mary and Martha were as close as a brother to Jesus. Lazarus, their brother, took ill and the sisters sent word to Jesus. Even though Jesus got the bad news he didn’t arrive till three days after Lazarus died. The women were distraught and clearly disappointed. Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead and everyone was ecstatic, but Mary and Martha still boldly questioned Jesus about his delayed response. Their respectful approach toward Jesus is a wonderful example to all of us dealing with confrontation.
Reach out to your parent(s) about whatever is bothering you. Pray and ask God to give you the right words to say then approach them with love and respect.
John 11: 32 “When Mary reached the place where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet and said, Lord if you had been here, my brother would not have died.”
Encouragement:
Pray and ask God for the best time to have a conversation with your mom or dad. Be bold but respectful like Mary and Martha then humbly explain your concerns. Remember our Heavenly Father has your best interests at heart.
Know I’m Praying for you,
Sherry
